Team India will take on Sri Lanka in the first match of the three-match ODI series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. As technology becomes increasingly incorporated into cricket, batsmen have the privilege of challenging umpire’s decisions. However, Charith Aslanka surprised everyone when the umpire declared him out even though the ball only touched his towel.
India dominated proceedings in the first ever ODI by scoring 373 in the series opener as the visitors were already reduced to 179/7 in 33 overs. Earlier in the game Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and later asked the hosts to bat first due to the definite possibility of dew. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both scored half-centuries, while Virat Kohli scored a brilliant hundred to help the team register a score of 370+.

Mohammad Siraj was sensational with the new ball, picking up two wickets and Umran Malik soon followed in his footsteps troubling the opposition with his blistering pace. The bowler was soon rewarded for his efforts in the 14th with the dismissal of Charith Aslanka, although replays of the incident brought to the fore a grim revelation and resulted in an amusing moment.
Charith Aslanka tries to guide the ball towards fine leg but Malik’s pace strangles him. There was a distinct crackling in the air as the ball skimmed past Mendis’s legs and into the wicketkeeper’s gloves. The umpire soon raised the finger as the bowler went up in appeal and, in response, Aslanka did not bother to discuss a possible review with Pathum Nissanka at the other end.

However, UltraEdge later showed that there was no nick and that the sound was echoed from the ball brushing the towel tied around Aslanka’s waist. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka was clearly upset when replays showed Aslanka failed to detect that the ball had brushed the towel instead of coming off his willow and went on without considering the review.

Charith Aslanka knows that reviewing it against an Indian umpire is useless, especially when you are battling against India.
Had they reviewed it, Sri Lanka would have lost a review. #indvsl

The level of commentary is definitely going down these days. Earlier in the day Murali Karthik praises Rohit when Rohit looks good even after scoring a duck, and Sunny ji later says Aslanka doesn’t want to face Umran Malik so didn’t review. @kartikmurali

did you see ? Typical blind Indian umpire. But why didn’t Aslanka take that review?
Remember if you play in India with blind Indian umpires then you have to play against 13 or 14. #indvsl

So no spike on ultraage on Aslanka wicket. It should have been reviewed but it doesn’t take away anything from the ind umpire. WTF is this mustard? SL team should complain to the authorities #indvsl

Lol Ultra-Edge shows Aslanka was not out. Is this correct or do we trust the ultra-edge a bit too much? Because I am sure any batsman would not have got run out if he had not edged. #INDvsSL
