Team India locked horns with Sri Lanka in the final match of the three-match ODI series at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. In a country that worships sports, Indian cricketers are worshiped more often than not, especially when it is someone of Virat Kohli’s stature. On Sunday, a groundsman chose to make the players wait while he clicked selfies with the six-hit ball before returning it.

In a disappointing stint in the series on Sunday, fans saw several star performers with both bat and ball but none could match the feat of their former skipper Virat Kohli. The 34-year-old came close to Sachin Tendulkar’s record as he registered his 46th ODI century with a brilliant 166 off 112 balls.

The knock saw Talisman climb up to fifth position as the highest run scorer by a batsman in ODI cricket, surpassing Mahela Jayawardene’s mark of 12,654 runs. What the talismanic knock meant to the crowd, even in a dead rubber, was on display during the 46th over of the first innings in an incident that had Twitterati buzzing.

After scoring 128 off 96 balls, Virat Kohli decided to come down hard on Kasun Rajitha with utmost class and grace to hit his first ball of the over for a six. The Kookaburra hit the sightscreen and was trapped outside the boundary fence, requiring the ball to be brought in to restart play.

A sports groundsman was quick to take responsibility and somehow zoomed in on the seats to reach the ball. While everyone waited for him to return to play White Rock, the fan audaciously took out his smartphone from his pocket. The big screen, realizing what was happening, also focused on the events and the entire audience saw the boy holding his breath clicking photos with the ball.
