Irfan Pathan said that Mohammad Siraj deserves to play 2023 World Cup – SBB Times

Former India all-rounder, Irfan Pathan has heaped praise on Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, saying that he has done everything to make it to the ODI World Cup later this year in October. Siraj picked up three wickets as India registered a 4-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Speaking with Star Sports, Irfan Pathan said that from the World Cup perspective, Siraj has done everything to make it to the squad for the upcoming marquee event. He explained, “From the point of view of the 50-over World Cup, Mohammed Siraj has done everything to say that his name should not be forgotten because he has been performing regularly.”

Irfan Pathan said Siraj has the ability to move the ball both ways and has been regularly taking wickets for India with the new ball.

The former Indian all-rounder insisted, “It is not just about this series, you regularly see Siraj creating breakthroughs with the new ball in each of India’s series. He is swinging the ball both ways, bowling fast and improving his standard. He will try to convert his ODI form into T20 cricket as well.

The 38-year-old said that playing Mohammed Siraj regularly is giving him a lot of confidence that his performances will improve.

Irfan Pathan said, “He is getting so much confidence from playing regularly, you will see an improvement in his performance in the shorter format. But the team management will only be eyeing the 50-over World Cup.

KL Rahul’s half-century followed by brilliant bowling from Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav helped India beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in the second ODI on Thursday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Rahul remained unbeaten on 64 as India chased down Sri Lanka’s target of 216 after havoc from Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj. After securing victories in Guwahati and Kolkata, India are set to face Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI in Thiruvananthapuram.
