The carnival of cricket returns to South Africa with the inaugural edition of the SA20 at Newlands on Tuesday, 10 January. MI Cape Town locked horns with Paarl Royals in the opening game of the tournament, and it was Royal’s English white-ball superstar Jos. Buttler, who produced the first maximum of the promising tournament after scooping compatriot Jofra Archer with utter disdain.
In the opening match of the tournament, Rashid Khan of MI Cape Town won the toss and elected to bowl first. Jofra Archer made his much-anticipated return to competitive cricket after a dreadful 2022 which was marred by multiple injuries.

When he bagged an impressive maiden wicket on his return to competitive cricket, his compatriot and white-ball captain Jos Buttler played a scoop shot over the fine leg boundary in the fifth over of the match for a non-stop six.
Incidentally, it was the first six of the much-anticipated inaugural edition of the tournament. Buttler’s trademark shot over the fine leg fence also impressed former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen, who was on commentary duty at the time.

The England white-ball captain, who recently helped the team win their second T20 World Cup title in Australia, also registered his maiden half-century of the tournament.
