Team India will face Sri Lanka in the second match of the three-match ODI series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Indian wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav had a torrid stint with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but won hearts with a beautiful delivery at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

India took control of the second ODI on Wednesday as their spinners earned back-to-back scalps in quick succession to leave the visitors in trouble. At the time of writing, the Lions were already 168 for 7 at the end of 33 overs, despite the Islanders managing an impressive second-wicket partnership of 73 runs run-a-ball.

Kuldeep Yadav gave the Men in Blue the much-needed breakthrough when he trapped the in-form Kusal Mendis in front of the wicket on the last ball of the 17th over. The batsman was looking well-set, scoring 34 off 34 balls, but he was careful against the spinners and used his aggressive shots for the pacers.
The ball pitched around the middle stump and a wary Mendis was back on his feet, only to be completely betrayed by a Topo-spin delivery. The ball came down with an angle and hit the outside edge of the bat and hit the back pad of the 27-year-old. The umpire didn’t hesitate to raise his finger and even though Mendis immediately prompted a DRS review, replays showed the ball was comfortably hitting middle and over the off-stump.

After spending seven years at KKR, the bowler’s relationship with the club till his release in 2021 had come under question. However, the left-arm leg-spinner’s reputation among the Kolkata crowd remained a delight, as was evident from the loud applause he received when he took important wickets.
