Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi is under medical observation and has been put on external oxygen support following an attack of double COVID-19 infection, severe pneumonia and influenza. On 13 January, Lalit put up a series of pictures on his Instagram handle, in which he was seen resting on a hospital bed.
In one of his posts, Lalit said that he traveled to London in an air ambulance and was very grateful to the doctors for taking care of him.
“Finally landed via air ambulance with two doctors and superstar super efficient son who did a lot for me in London. The flight was smooth. Unfortunately still on external oxygen 24/7. Thank you everyone at @vistajet for going the extra mile. I am very thankful to all. love to all. Big hug,” read one of his posts.
As soon as Lalit revealed his condition on Instagram, his post was flooded with many wishing the 59-year-old a speedy recovery. Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh also commented on Lalit’s post. “Get well soon,” read former India veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh’s comment.
Lalit left India in 2010 amid allegations of tax evasion, money laundering and proxy ownership and is currently based in London for the past few years. He was suspended by the BCCI on charges of financial impropriety and then in 2013 he was banned for life by the cricket governing body. Lalit is often credited with being the brainchild behind the cash-rich IPL.
He had previously made headlines for his rumored relationship with former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. On July 17, 2022, Lalit posted pictures of him with Sushmita and it made a lot of headlines. The news of marriage of both had come earlier also but till now it has not happened.
