Some players are famous among fans for their unique playing style, which sets them apart from others. Prithvi Shaw is one such character for his trademark aggressive batting, irrespective of the format, and his entertaining 379 for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy has been highly regarded.
Prithvi Shaw grabbed headlines after his brutal knock for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Assam at the Amingaon Cricket Ground on Wednesday. The 23-year-old opener scored 379 off 383 balls, studded with 49 fours and three sixes, before being trapped leg before by Riyan Parag. In the process, Shaw scored the second highest ever Ranji Trophy score.
The record for the highest score by an Indian batsman in Ranji Trophy and first-class cricket is held by Bhausaheb Nimbalkar, who scored 443 not out for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in December 1948. Ninth batsman to cross 350 in Ranji innings on Wednesday, surpassing Swapnil Gugale (351*), Cheteshwar Pujara (352), VVS Laxman (353), Samit Gohel (359*), Vijay Merchant (359*), MV Sridhar became. (366) and Sanjay Manjrekar (377). Manjrekar’s 377 was the highest score by a Mumbai batsman in first-class cricket before Shaw’s carnage.
Notably, Shaw became the first player to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy, a double century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Thrilled that my record of 377 has been broken by a batsman I love! Well done Earth!
