In the last one year, Team India has seen many captains on many occasions. The playing XI has seen a lot of tweaks and changes as well as a number of players leading the side which hasn’t gone down well with a lot of pundits. From KL Rahul to Hardik Pandya, barring R Ashwin, a seasoned cricketer, many cricketers have captained the Indian team across formats.

Ever since India’s skipper of all formats, Virat Kohli resigned from the post, seven players have led the team across all formats. Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have all led India on various occasions. However, surprisingly, R Ashwin has not been included in the list. He has been instrumental in India’s success on many occasions.

His overall performance along with his excellent skill and strategy making has helped the Indian team emerge victorious from the most difficult situations. However, when the lanky 36-year-old was asked the captaincy question, he was very clear.
Explaining the same during a recent interaction with The New Indian Express, R Ashwin said, “Once I put my boots on, I think I will have the answer. But till then my dreams will remain open, I am waiting for opportunities. He believes that not being the captain of India should not affect his sleep or hinder his game.

Regarding Hardik’s captaincy, R Ashwin said, ‘He is a very smart cricketer. One thing I like about him is that he is very calm. Because he is chilled and relaxed, I think it will create a much more relaxed atmosphere in the team and the players will perform well as a unit.
