Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar believes that there is no reason behind Indian skipper Rohit Sharma not being able to score a century in the ODI format. The India skipper looked in fine touch during his 34-run knock against New Zealand in Hyderabad, however, got out trying to hit the line against Blair Tickner. The Indian captain gave a simple catch to Daryl Mitchell standing at mid-on in the 13th over of the match.
Sharma scored his last ODI ton in 2020 against Australia in Bangalore. Since then Rohit Sharma has done well in the recent matches but till now he has not been able to reach three figures. Manjrekar spoke on the same and said that as long as India is getting big scores, the management will not be bothered about the lack of big scores from the captain.
During a conversation with the broadcaster, Sanjay Manjrekar said, ‘As long as India is scoring big scores, the team management will not be worried. But, you want all your batsmen to score big. However, I don’t see any problem with the way he is hitting the ball.

He further said, ‘Today he was leaving a lot of balls outside the off-stump, which made me think that he has made up his mind to score big. And then the wicket happened. Mid-on and mid-off were inside the circle. So it is a big challenge for a player like Rohit to try to play shots like that.
Rohit Sharma looked solid in the opening game of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand with four fours and two sixes and a double century stand by Shubman Gill.
Explaining this, Sanjay Manjrekar said, ‘I don’t know why big scores are not coming. I don’t see any clear indication there that he is not batting well. With Virat Kohli, we saw that he was not in the kind of form that we expect or have become used to over the years. Rohit Sharma seems to be striking the ball well, goes up to 30-40, 70-80 in the series against Sri Lanka.

He further said, “But hundreds are avoiding them. As long as India is scoring 350 or more, I have no problem with them not scoring hundreds. A century could be just around the corner as there are no clear signs that he is out of form or struggling,” the former player concluded hopefully.
