Team India opener Shweta Sehrawat and captain Shafali Verma opened their campaign in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup by defeating hosts South Africa by 7 wickets. One of the highlights of the contest was the captain’s brilliant knock of 45 off just 16 balls, which was studded with six fours in just one over.
South Africa chose to bat first in the match and could only manage a score of 166 runs in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, India got off to an impressive start as the opening pair gave the side control in the clash.

Shafali Verma then changed gears and decided to target fast bowler Nathabiseng Nini as she later hit five fours in the first five balls and hit a six off the last ball to reach 26 runs in the over.

On the first ball, Shafali Verma glided square to third man and slapped one on the offside on the second and fourth balls of the over. He continued his aggression as he hit one over the head at deep mid-on on the third and fifth balls and finished the over with a four that crossed the player over mid-on for a maximum.

After the dismissal of Shafali, who scored a brilliant 45 at a strike rate of 281.25, her opening partner Sehrawat kept the scoreboard going and eventually scored an unbeaten 92 off 57 balls, which included 20 fours.
Significantly, the captain also took two wickets for 31 runs in his four overs with the ball. Shweta Sehrawat was named player of the match for her sensational innings in the first game of the marquee event.
