Iyer’s exclusion from the ODI series has opened the door for Suryakumar Yadav to return to the playing XI after being dropped for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which India won 3-0. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are now favorites to replace Iyer and KL Rahul, who have chosen to quit the series to marry Bollywood star Athiya Shetty.
Madhya Pradesh batsman Patidar has been in scintillating form with the bat. He scored his first IPL century in the playoff game against Lucknow Super Giants last year to guide Royal Challengers Bangalore to victory.
In 51 List A matches, Patidar has a strike rate of 97.45 including three hundreds and eight half-centuries. India will begin the ODI series against the Black Caps in Hyderabad with the second match at Raipur and the final match at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
