There is a fair question in the Indian cricket fraternity as to what more needs to be done for Sarfaraz Khan to make it into the Test team. Legendary Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar has come down heavily on the Indian selection committee led by Chetan Sharma for ignoring rising star Sarfaraz despite his excellent form in the domestic arena.
Overlooked in the high-profile Test series between India and Australia, promising young batsman, Sarfaraz scored another century to continue his stellar run in the Indian domestic circuit. Days after former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad criticized the national selectors for ignoring Sarfaraz, Gavaskar came out in support of the youngster while taking a dig at the national selectors.

The former Indian skipper also lashed out at critics who questioned Sarfaraz Khan’s fitness. In his strong statement against the national selectors, Sunil Gavaskar said that cricketers come in all shapes and sizes.
Sunil Gavaskar during a conversation with India Today said, ‘If you are only looking for slim and trim boys, then you can go to a fashion show and find some other models and give them bat and ball in their hands and Then you can improve them. , Cricket doesn’t work like this. You have cricketers of all shapes and sizes. Don’t go by size, go by score or wicket. When he scores a century, he doesn’t stay out of the ground. He is back on the field again. So, whatever that tells you the man is fit.
Sunil Gavaskar’s comments come days after Sarfaraz scored his third hundred in the 2023 edition of the Ranji Trophy. The flagship batsman took the Mumbai team to a respectable score of 293 in their first innings against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Legendary cricketer Gavaskar also said that the Yo-Yo test can never be the sole selection criteria.

Explaining this, Sunil Gavaskar said, ‘How can you score runs? I think in the end, if you remain unfit, you will not be able to score a hundred. Cricket fitness is the most important thing. The yo-yo test cannot be the only yardstick. You have to make sure that the person is fit for cricket as well. I don’t think it matters if anyone is fit for cricket.
