Viacom18 has acquired the media rights for the Women’s IPL. They also gave Rs 951 crore to BCCI, which means the broadcaster will pay Rs 7.09 crore per match value to BCCI for the next 5 years (2023-27) as well. This is a huge development for women’s cricket. Later BCCI Secretary Jai Shah also confirmed this news.
In another tweet, Jay Shah also said that after pay equity, bidding for media rights of women’s IPL is another historic mandate. She referred to it as the beginning of a new era as well as a big and decisive step for the empowerment of women’s cricket in India. Jay Shah hopes that WIPL will also ensure the participation of women of all ages.
