New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batsman Virat Kohli is in excellent form in IPL 2024, and once again, he proved it on Thursday in Dharamshala. Although the match was briefly halted due to rain at the HPCA Stadium, the storm named Kohli continued unabated. However, Kohli missed out on scoring a century despite playing a splendid innings against Punjab Kings.

Kohli’s Innings

Virat Kohli played a remarkable innings of 97 runs. He fell just three runs short of a century. Kohli’s innings began with a lifeline, as he was dropped at zero by Ashutosh off the bowling of the skilled Kaverappa. Kohli capitalized on this opportunity and dominated the Punjab Kings’ bowlers.

Second Instance of Missing a Century

This was only the second time that Kohli missed a century in the IPL. Previously, in 2013, he was dismissed for 99 runs against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). During that innings, he also completed his 1000 runs against Punjab. Kohli shared partnerships with Rajat Patidar, scoring 76 runs, and with Cameron Green, contributing 92 runs off just 46 balls. In his innings, Kohli faced 47 deliveries and smashed seven fours along with six sixes.

RCB’s Massive Score

Apart from Kohli, in this match, Rajat Patidar also shone for RCB by scoring a half-century. He played an innings of 55 runs off 23 balls, supported by three fours and six sixes. Cameron Green also played a blistering innings, adding valuable runs. With these contributions, RCB set a massive score of 241 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs, which is the highest total in IPL history at Dharamshala.

Conclusion

Despite Kohli’s brilliant innings, RCB set a formidable position against Punjab Kings, but he missed out on a century. Nevertheless, his performance remained crucial for his team.
