At least eight of the 10 men’s IPL franchises will bid for their teams in the women’s IPL. The BCCI is all set to announce the winning cities along with the franchises after opening the sealed bids on January 25.

ESPNcricinfo has confirmed that Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and defending IPL champions Gujarat Titans will submit bids. The two remaining IPL franchises – Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants – did not confirm whether they had bought the tender document and whether they would bid for the five-team women’s IPL, which is scheduled to start in March.

IPL teams are not the only entities to buy the tender document, which has been put up for sale by the BCCI since January 3. Interested bidders have until January 13 to submit queries, with January 23 being the deadline for submitting technical bids for evaluation, which the BCCI will conduct in association with Mumbai-based law firm Argus Partners.

The BCCI has listed 10 Indian cities and venues in the tender, which allows a party to bid for more than one city. No base price has been set, and bids will be accepted for a period of 10 years (2023-32).

Among the eligibility criteria listed in the tender document, the BCCI has stated that the bidder should have an audited net worth of at least Rs 1000 crore as on March 31, 2022. The BCCI has said that consortium or joint venture companies are not eligible. ,

How will the bids be evaluated?
The BCCI has included an important clause in the selection of the winning bid, which states that it “will not be bound to accept the highest monetary offer”. This is similar to the clause that the ICC set last year when media rights for women’s global events were sold for the period 2023-27. The BCCI has said that it will look at the bidder’s vision to raise the profile and accelerate the growth of women’s cricket in India.

Listing the desired objectives of a potentially successful bidder, the BCCI stated: “To establish a stable, successful, financially secure, long-term franchise to participate in the league; To provide the widest coverage and widest possible audience for the league.” To ensure; Support the development of the game of women’s cricket at all levels in India; Maximize and increase exposure, wherever possible, for each of the official sponsors of the league; Increase exposure for women’s cricket in India, both in India and the rest of the world and raise “

BCCI has kept March as the window for WIPL in the tender. While the BCCI has not formally announced the dates for the inaugural season, it is expected to begin around March 5 and end around March 23.
