David Warner will take no further part in Delhi Test, Matt Renshaw will replace him

Australia opener David Warner will not take further part in the second Test of the ongoing 4-match series against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Matt Renshaw will replace him as a concussion substitute. Cricket Australia confirmed the development ahead of the start of the second day of the Test on Saturday.

David Warner was hit by a Mohammed Siraj bouncer during the first day of the Test, and even though there was no concussion check at the time, Warner did not take the field afterwards after the visitors were bundled out for 263. The southpaw opener saw another forgettable performance in the first innings of the Test as he managed only 15 runs from 44 balls.

The Australian left-hander was caught-back while chasing a ball against Mohammed Shami. Warner has been going through a rough patch over the past few months and even as he scored a double century against South Africa, his scores have otherwise been largely poor.

Barring his 200 in the second Test of the series, Warner had scores of 0, 3 and 10 in the other three innings. In the first Test against India, the 36-year-old batsman scored 1 and 10 in two innings at Nagpur.

His replacement, Renshaw, was part of the XI in the previous Test, but failed to break into double figures, scoring 0 and 2 in both innings respectively. He was eventually dropped from the XI before an injury to Warner forced the visitors to bring Renshaw back into the mix.

Earlier, Australia were bundled out for 263 with the help of Usman Khawaja’s 81. Meanwhile, India ended the day at 21/0 in 9 overs, with skipper Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 13 while KL Rahul was batting on 4. India are leading the four-match series 1-0 after registering a comprehensive innings and 132-run win over the visiting team in the first Test.
